iOS and iPadOS
Since Xcode 14, one 1024 px image is enough: Xcode makes the rest. iOS 18 and later add dark and tinted versions, and Xcode 26 also takes an Icon Composer .icon file. Use a full square with no transparency and no rounded corners; the system adds the mask.

Mac icons are not masked by the system. Draw the rounded shape into the image: at 1024 px the shape is 824 × 824, centred, with 100 px of space around it for the shadow.

Android
Android 8 and later use adaptive icons: a foreground and a background layer, each 108 × 108 dp. Launchers crop them into circles, squircles and other shapes, showing the middle 72 dp. Keep anything important inside the central 66 dp circle, the safe zone.
